At the heart of Kohe, a mindfully restored wetland and protected forest form the ecological backbone of the neighbourhood. Streams are being replanted with kohekohe, tōtara and kahikatea, strengthening habitat for native species. Approximately one hectare of native forest has been covenanted to protect ancient trees, some up to 700 years old, ensuring their preservation for future generations.
